Lean In , Shery Sandberg – A Review

“If I had to embrace a definition of success, it would be that success is making the best choices we can… and accepting them.” This quote from ‘Lean in’ reminded me of a song I’d sung as a child – ‘Happiness is different things to different people ; that’s what Happiness  is!’  This book is a window to this ever evasive Success and Happiness. Recommended to me by my cousin, this book from Facebook’s COO is an inspiration and an eye opener.  As the cover notes – Lean In is about Women, Work and the Will to Lead. And as Sheryl states – this book is neither a Memoir nor a self-help book, it is not a career management book or a female manisfesto – okay a sort of a female manifesto, yet it hopes to inspire both Men and women alike

Her insight into today’s professional world being more like a Jungle Gym and about Seeking and Speaking the truth are just some of the take-aways. Her direction for working together towards equality is most valuable. Sheryl generously admits that she is fortunate than most and also that not all need and want to work outside the home, yet it is a guide for all.  It is a conversation which we should all have.  I am amazed at some of the obvious patterns stated which so many of us women follow inherently – not sitting at the table ,leaving too soon, the fear of being a bad mother/wife/daughter.

It is sprinkled with motivation words – one of my personal favorite- “Done is better that Perfect”, just what I needed today! Sherly’s shared her personal experiences and anecdotes throughout the book making it a delight.  Yes this definitely is a book for Men and Women alike, a book for our generation and definitely a book for GenNext. Looking forward to reading her other book ‘Option B’ …
